A community-owned resource for families in the City of Yarra and the surrounding areas, the Collingwood Toy Library is a registered charity operated on a non-profit basis and managed by a committee of volunteer members who are elected annually.

Established by a small group of parents in 1992 we now have over 4500 toys that are borrowed by over 600 families!

We encourage positive adult/child interactions and promote the educational value of play for young children from birth to aged 12 and beyond. Borrowing new play materials on a regular basis helps:

  • meet the changing needs of your child at each stage of development

  • save money by reducing the need or temptation to buy toys

  • avoid the clutter associated with owning toys

  • reduce your carbon footprint

We constantly maintain and replenish our stock of toys and employ a coordinator. These running costs are covered via membership fees, fundraising and grants.

By offering an informal meeting place for local parents with young children in the community, we also aim to foster local friendships and combat social isolation.

Meet our coordinator

Amy has a long association with the Toy Library and has worked part time as our coordinator since her children were small. She has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the toys we stock having catalogued most of them herself. If you need help finding a particular toy, she is the one to ask!
